“This tune has corrected all the shifting issues such as gear hunting in the 3rd Gen along with more power and torque. They offer several levels including light, mild, spicy and I believe a race. I decided to choose medium and with the press of the ECT it’s spicy which I also noticed an extreme difference in the throttle response.

I’ve had my 2017 Tacoma DCSB TRD OR for over 4 years, and had considered regearing as well as tuning options. Man…WHY DID I WAIT to tune my truck until now!!??!! As soon as John finished flashing the tune package, it was immediately apparent and a great improvement… and that was just getting to the first stop sign from the parking spot. The excessive and harsh shift points and shifting are all gone now, having done some interstate, country roads and grass and gravel driving, there is just as much pronounced improvements in the pedal response and feel, as well as holding gears longer on hill climbs. I went with light/medium throttle settings and can’t wait to get out into the mountains to feel the difference, both on road and off road!

Shifting behavior like it should have been from the Toyota factory and not from an aftermarket tune with OTT
Always had a gripe with the automatic shifting behavior, either under load when towing or when on the interstate with the cruise set to 71mph. The constant downshifting on the slightest inclines and then the holding of the downshifted gear for a mile or more and the engine screaming at higher rpms became annoying during trips to the Adirondacks. With all the inclines it was a constant battle to disengage cruise control, let the transmission upshift and then re-engage the cruise until the next incline and do the same. During a 500 mile round trip this became annoying. The OTT flash FIXED THIS like it should have been: Downshift when needed and immediately upshift one the incline was overcome. The ability to choose various throttle response settings are a neat option as well. Not much different between SPICY and the RACE option that was chosen but the pedal response is crisp and defined. Overall the truck seems to be operating more smoothly when travelling which is what this rig is used for. You will not be disappointed and its a cheap bang for the buck.

It’s been a few weeks since I got the tune done on my 4Runner and I have nothing but good things to say about it! John was super easy to work with and answered any questions I had. He even accommodated me on short notice, as I came from 3 hours away! Noticed a significant difference in tip-in throttle response and power where we use our trucks 99% of the time. Hopefully the TCMs will get cracked for the 2015-2019’s, but I did notice significantly less gear-hunting when using cruise control on the highway. On a recent trip from Atlanta GA to WV- truck with RTT, I was getting 18mpg on the highway with cruise set to 72mph - That’s incredible for a Toyota! “I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Limited with 156,000 miles. Needless to say, spend a lot of time driving on and off road. I currently have an overland build with a steel bumper, rock sliders, CBI full overland skid plates, The Drifter from Vagabond Outdoors, etc... The full build weighs about 7,000 pounds which is a lot of weight for the Tacoma.
Previously I was using a Throttle Grenade (throttle controller) to reduce the annoying throttle lag the truck already had before I started adding modifications. But the truck was still having a hard time keeping up with traffic and gear hunting while on the highway. A friend suggested that I contact @ADV4x4 for the Overland Tailor Tune.
I had the Overland Tailor Tune for about a month and I noticed some sufficient changes. The X2Power Premium AGM battery is charging at 14.6V vs the standard 13.6. The throttle response is much better than stock and if I want a quicker response and aggressive shifting the ECT button mapped just for that. The truck no longer hunts for gears, the shift points are smoother, and I can keep up with traffic with no problem.
But most importantly, the truck performs better off-road while going over obstacles, going uphill, and through water crossings.”

I wanted to wait a few weeks to provide some insights, since it's been about 3 weeks after receiving the tune on my 19 Tacoma DCLB.
Technician: John was professional, on-time, detailed, responsive, knowledgeable and polite.
Tune: OTT9.0 has been great so far, with no issues since the tune. RPMs are there when needed, power band is smooth and I don't have anything bad to say at the moment. Overall, it's almost like a different truck and very pleasurable to drive!
Summary: Overall - My experience with OTT/John has been great. Would I recommend it? Your truck, your call but I would not go up in size and lift other than stock tires if you're not planning on a tune or re-gear!

I was honestly super skeptical, but I am so glad that I got this tune. My biggest complaint was the gear searching on hills, especially using cruise control. Now, the truck holds its gear until the top of a hill. I was super surprised with the improved throttle response. I love how the my truck gets out of its own way now. The 4.0 is an incredible engine, but I wouldn’t want to have bigger tires without a tune. I’m super happy I went with John and OTT.
